You had to know that the cable and internet providers would figure out a way to squeeze something out of Netflix.
The cable companies are in a tough spot. They are watching their market share dwindle as on demand and streaming services seem poised to take over out televisions ( and tablets and smartphones and PSVitas.. )
To add insult to injury- companies like Amazon and Netflix are using their own infrastructure to steal their customers. ( at least this is how the cable companies see it). So looks like they found a way to skim some of the cream off the Netflix crop.
Netflix Inc. NFLX -0.58% has agreed to pay Comcast Corp. CMCSA +1.29% to ensure Netflix movies and television shows stream smoothly to Comcast customers, a landmark pact that could set a precedent for Netflix’s dealings with other broadband providers, people familiar with the matter said.
In exchange for payment, Netflix will get direct access to Comcast’s broadband network.
Nice work Comcast.
